Squint

What is Squint (Strabismus)?

Squint, medically known as Strabismus, is a condition where the eyes are not aligned properly and point in different directions.
•One eye may look straight
•The other may turn inward, outward, upward, or downward

This misalignment can be constant or occasional and may affect both children and adults.

If untreated, it can lead to lazy eye (amblyopia) and permanent vision problems.

Types of Squint (Strabismus)

1. Esotropia (Inward Turning)

• Eye turns toward the nose
•Common in children

2. Exotropia (Outward Turning)

• Eye turns outward
•May occur intermittently

3. Hypertropia (Upward Turning)

• One eye deviates upward

4. Hypotropia (Downward Turning)

 • One eye deviates downward

5.Congenital Squint

• Present since birth or early infancy

6.Acquired Squint

• Develops later due to:
•Refractive error

•Family history of squint
•Uncorrected refractive errors (high number)

•Neurological conditions
